American Idol - Final 2 - May 20, 2003

            ROUND ONE

Ruben Studdard - "A House is Not A Home" - Hey, THIS IS TAMYRA'S SONG! :) Surprisingly, though, I liked his version better...so no complaints here. It was a better arrangement too. Anyways, it was a tad flat in a spot or two, but I think he's just tired. It was very, very good--one of my favorites from him.

Score = 5/5

Clay Aiken - "This is the Night" - Okay, it's risky to sing an original song, but I have to say I LOVED IT! I really really liked it. It was fabulous...the last note was a little risky, but he pulled it off! I absolutely loved it! I had to give him an extra point tonight!

Score = 6/5

Best of Round One: Clay Aiken

Worst of Round One: Ruben Studdard

          ROUND TWO

Ruben Studdard - "Imagine" - This is not a good song choice at all...having said that, thogh, it was good. It was very nice, but it didn't do much for me.

Score = 4/5

Clay Aiken - "Here, There, And Everywhere" - This song had several high spots, which was good--it shows his range. He used his "upper register," as Paula likes to say. Anyways, it was good--I liked it.

Score = 5/5

Best of Round Two: Clay Aiken

Worst of Round Two: Ruben Studdard

            ROUND THREE

Ruben Studdard - "Flying Without Wings" - Another slow song--ugh! It was a decent slow song, though..quite boring. Anyways, it was good, but not his greatest. The choir definitely added some "spark" to his performance. I have to say, he did fairly well with it.

Score = 5/5

Clay Aiken - "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" - I can't say much for this performance. It was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! Clay has really done great tonight. I loved the song, and his rendition was great. It was fantastic, once again.

Score = 5/5

Best of Round Three: Ruben Studdard & Clay Aiken

Worst of Round Three: NONE!

Overall synopsis/comments: They chose all slow songs, which was a tad disappointing, but oh well. They were all fairly decent, and that was good as well. I LOVED Clay's original song and his "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" song, even though the judges hated Clay's original! Weird! Well, it was a good night all together...

Who I want to go:

1.) Ruben

2.) Clay

Who will go:

1.) Clay

2.) Ruben

Numbers to call:
1-866-436-5701 for Ruben

1-866-436-5702 for Clay

American Idol - Final 3 - May 13, 2003

            ROUND ONE - Random Songs

Kimberley Locke - "Band of Gold" - I have to say, this is an AWESOME song! She looked comfortable on that stage, and she did not look the least bit nervous. She sounded great too--it was one of her best performances! :)

Score = 5/5

Ruben Studdard - "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours" - Another great song, wow! He had on a hideous outfit, but he had a good song to cover that little flaw up! :) He did a good job, but I was not blown away by it. It was just okay...

Score = 4/5

Clay Aiken - "Vincent" - Another ballad! AH! I guess I can't blame him, though. After all, this IS the random round, so Clay had no control over the song choice...so I thought it was VERY mean of the judges to criticize the song choice, as he had no say in it AT ALL! Anyways...it was a boring song, but he did okay. I think it probably was his worst performance to date, but it was all the fault of the song, not the performer.

Score = 3/5

Best of Round One: Kimberley Locke

Worst of Round One: Clay Aiken

          ROUND TWO - Judges Pick Songs

Kimberley Locke - "Anyone Who Had A Heart" - Again, very good song choice! It was very good--wow, very very good! Although he started a little weak, she pulled herself out of it. It was exceptional. :) Good job "K-Lo!"

Score = 5/5

Ruben Studdard - "Smile" - Okay, first of all--horrible horrible song! It doesn't do much for his voice at all. It was a very difficult song, but wow Ruben sounds tired! His voice is very hoarse and he sounds like he's hurting himself. He literally had me coughing because his voice sounded so hoarse. It was decent, but not his best.

Score = 4/5

Clay Aiken - "Mack the Knife" - Wow, Clay looks much worse than usual! He has quite a few zits (hehe) and his outfit is not flattering on him...anyways, this song is very good. It shows his immaculate vocal range. It was not overly impressive, though...although the judges loved it for some odd reason! They never agree with me!

Score = 4.5/5

Best of Round Two: Kimberley Locke

Worst of Round Two: Ruben Studdard

            ROUND THREE - Contestants Pick Songs

Kimberley Locke - "Inseparable" - Another slow song--ugh! I can't believe Kimmy chose this one! Anyways, it was a very good song, but it did not "wow" me...I still enjoyed it, though. Great job girl! :)

Score = 5/5

Ruben Studdard - "If Ever You're In My Arms Again" - Ruben was a little pitchy in the beginning and throughout spots in the middle, but it was a good song for him. Considering how worn-out he sounds, he did a nice job with it. :)

Score = 5/5

Clay Aiken - "Unchained Melody" - Clay did a very very nice job with this song. It was as "smooth as diamonds" (Paula--still don't get that one, but it was smooth). He can go quite high, and I LOVE that! :) He doesnt sound tired like Ruben does, though...which is good. Keep it up, Clay!

Score = 5/5

Best of Round Three: Kimberley Locke

Worst of Round Three: Ruben Studdard

Overall synopsis/comments: Ruben sounds so tired...the poor guy should be put out of his misery and sent home! Kim was consistently good all three rounds, while the boys had their good and bad rounds tonight. If America votes strictly on the basis of tonight's performances, Ruben should go home and Kim should stay in the game, but I don't see that happening...

Who I want to go:

1.) Ruben

2.) Clay

3.) Kim L.

Who will go:

1.) Kim L.

2.) Clay

3.) Ruben

Numbers to call:
1-866-436-5701 for Kim L.

1-866-436-5702 for Ruben
1-866-436-5703 for Clay

American Idol - Final 4 - May 6, 2003

ROUND ONE

Joshua Gracin - "Jive Talkin'" - The first thing I noticed was that he sounded a lot better than last week! He was on key for the most part. It was definitely a good song for his voice too; it had a nice country feel to it, the way he sang it. It was good overall.

Score = 4/5

Clay Aiken - "To Love Somebody" - This song was a little different for Clay. It was a much different style. I thought it was boring, and not impressive overall. It was definitely high, and I could tell the crowd was enjoying it, as they were going wild! It was just okay.

Score = 4.5/5

Kimberley Locke - "I Just Want To Be Your Everything" - I like her straight hair with curls on the ends...hehe. Kim is really starting to work the camera well also. She looked great, once again! I enjoyed the song, and she sang it well, butit was just okay for me. Nothing special, unfortunately. It might cost her this week. :-/

Score = 5/5

Ruben Studdard - "Nights On Broadway" - This is an awesome song and I'm so glad that he chose to sing it! I didn't like the background vocals, though. They made him sound flat in parts...other than that, though, it was a pretty good performance

Score = 5/5

Best of Round One: Kimberley Locke

Worst of Round One: Ruben Studdard

ROUND TWO

Joshua Gracin - "To Love Somebody" - This is a great song, but Josh's rendition was just horrible! It wasn't his worst performance, but it wasn't his best either. It was disappointing.

Score = 4/5

Clay Aiken - "Grease" - Clay's outfit is very risky and somewhat odd, but it was a good change (his red shoes crack me up!). He is DANCING! OH MY GOSH--CLAY AIKEN IS DANCING! WAHOO! :) I love the song (of course...who doesn't?) and Clay's version was absolutely "refreshing" (as Paula likes to say). HE IS GREAT...three words - Wow, wow, and wow. :) I was so mad when Simon said it was horrible! Luckily the crowd agreed with me!

Score = 5/5

Kimberley Locke - "Emotion" - Why, oh why did Kim have to choose another slow song? Oh well, it's a good song...and her rendition was very very good. It was a fabulous performance, but I wasn't "wowed."

Score = 4.5/5

Ruben Studdard - "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?" - Ugh. The song is so slow and so "Ruben-like." His performances are becoming predictable. He used lots of curly-q's as usual...but it was nothing special. I am so sick of Paula and Randy's comments: "You keep bringin' it every night dawg" (Randy) and "You make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! You make us all feel warm and fuzzy inside!" (Paula). I will have you know that Ruben DOES NOT make me feel warm and fuzzy inside! HE MAKES ME WANT TO PUKE! :) Gosh I am so sick of this guy...this was his worst performance to date.

Score = 3.5/5

Best of Round Two: Clay Aiken

Worst of Round One: Ruben Studdard

Overall synopsis/comments: Josh definitely made a noteworthy comeback, but hopefully it's not good enough to save him another week! I have a feeling that since Kimberley didn't deliver performances as good as usual, she's going to find herself packing this week! :( All I have to say is, if America gets it right tomorrow night, three people will be left with great voices and wonderful careers ahead of them (and I don't count Josh as a person with a "good" voice). :)

Who I want to go:

1.) Josh

2.) Ruben

3.) Clay

4.) Kim L.

Who will go:

1.) Kim L.

2.) Josh

3.) Clay

4.) Ruben

Numbers to call:
1-866-436-5701 for Josh

1-866-436-5702 for Clay
1-866-436-5703 for Kim L.

1-866-436-5704 for Ruben

American Idol - Final 5 - April 29, 2003

ROUND ONE

Ruben Studdard - "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" - Ruben's outfit was absolutely ugly and definitely NOT flattering, but he sounded good. He makes it look so easy out there! I thought he was a little pitchy in a couple of spots (which as far as I can remember, is unusual for Ruben), but it could have just been my ears. It was definitely NOT his best at all...in fact, I was rather disappointing.

Score = 3.5/5

Trenyce - "Proud Mary" - Okay, WOW. Trenyce got up there and looked absolutely horrible. Her bangs were ugly and her outfit was crazy! Considering it was a VERY hard song, Trenyce did very very very well. And that's saying A LOT sine I never have really liked her anyways. I have to say, I really enjoyed her performance of this song.

Score = 5/5

Joshua Gracin - "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" - Oh God, I suddenly forgot about the past performances, and my delight from Trenyce's come back was all of the sudden ruined when Josh stepped out. He looked extremely tired, and worn out. It was a HORRIBLE performance. I mean absolutely awful. It was definitely better than last week, but not by much. He was still horrible...poor guy.

Score = 3/5

Kimberley Locke - "I Heard it Through The Grapevine" - Okay, Kim looked HOT tonight, and I mean hot...she looked really really good! I loved the song and her rendition...all I can say is WOW with all capital letters. She deserves to win this competition.

Score = 4.5/5

Clay Aiken - "Build Me Up Buttercup" - Okay, TWO weeks in a row Clay has chosen a fast song and done REALLY well with it! This week his outfit was horrible (what's up with the bad outfits?), but he sounded fabulous. He was moving around a lot more than before, which I thought was good, especially since Paula has been trying to get him to do that more often. I LOVE that song and Clay's version was better than the original. I could tell Neil Sedaka really liked Clay, especially since he said he would be proud to write and produce his first album...

Score = 5/5

Best of Round One: Clay Aiken & Trenyce

Worst of Round One: Josh Gracin

ROUND TWO

Ruben Studdard - "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" - Another slow song...blah. It was good again, but I am so sick of him...he's getting to be like Clay was--predictable. I am also sick of Randy's comments, especially the one he made after this song, "You've already won." I couldn't agree more. :(

Score = 4/5

Trenyce - "Love Will Keep Us Together" - Wow she is much much better than last week, but not as good as she was in round one. Her "finger tapping" (as my dad calls it) on her microphone is DRIVING ME CRAZY! Have you noticed how she taps her middle finger and ring finger on the microphone as she sings? IT'S SO ANNOYING! AHHHH! :) lol! She was good overall, though...hopefully America will get it right and send Josh home before her.

Score = 4/5

Joshua Gracin - "Bad Blood" - This song was better than his song in round one. It showed off his country style a little more. It was pretty good, in fact. It was a huge step up from his round one performance, FOR SURE. For once I agree with Simon, though...he should go home based on tonight's performances.

Score = 4/5

Kimberley Locke - "Where The Boys Are" - Wow she looked great again! :) This song shows off her fabulous vocal range, as well! She is ABSOULTEY FANTASTIC! She is going to be hard to beat, although I don't think America will agree with me...I have a feeling she's not going to be around much longer, because the American people are STUPID!

Score = 5/5

Clay Aiken - "Solitaire" - Clay started this song lower than usual, but got up to his higher "normal" range. He was back to his boring self again...same style of clothing, and same slow song choice. Darn, I thought he was getting out of it! Anyways, it was good, nonetheless, and I have decided if Kim goes home, I want Clay to win. :)

Score = 5/5

Best of Round Two: Kimberley Locke

Worst of Round One: Josh Gracin

Overall synopsis/comments: Don't have much to say about this week, except I liked having two songs (the only downside to that is having to write so much! AHH!). Simon's comment about Kimberley going "beyond the bar" really made me feel even better about her being my favorite! I think Trenyce made her comeback this week, and Josh is almost getting worse than before! :( If America gets it right, they'll send Josh home this week...Trenyce deserves another week! :)

Who I want to go:

1.) Josh

2.) Trenyce

3.) Ruben

4.) Clay

5.) Kim L.

Who will go:

1 & 2.) Josh or Trenyce (no particular order)

3 & 4.) Kim L. or Clay (not sure which order)

5.) Ruben

Numbers to call:
1-866-436-5701 for Ruben

1-866-436-5702 for Trenyce
1-866-436-5703 for Josh
1-866-436-5704 for Kim L.
1-866-436-5705 for Clay

American Idol - Final 6 - April 22, 2003

Kimberley Locke - "If You Asked Me To" - Kim is my new favorite (after Carmen). I absolutely LOVE HER! She got out there and looked comfortable with herself, you could tell. She chose a GREAT song which showed her vocal range and her "big" voice. She did absolutely fantastic!

Score = 5/5

Clay Aiken - "I Could Not Ask For More" - This was not "the norm" for Clay. He took a risk and did a fast-paced song for once *gasp* and did absolutely wonderful with it. He pulled himself out of the ballady-slow-Clay style into something that was new and exciting. I loved it.

Score = 5/5

Trenyce - "Have You Ever?" - You know I've never been a big fan of Trenyce, but every week she gets up there and does really well. This week I can finally say I didn't really like it. It was good at the beginning, but she had quite a few pitch problems. Overall it was good, but it definitely did not make me sorry that I don't like her. Maybe if she got all her friends from the jail to vote for her, she could win...

Score = 3.5/5

Joshua Gracin - "That's When I'll Stop Loving You" - I have been a die-hard fan of Josh from the beginning, but I think he needs to go. He's not consitent in the least! One week he's great, and the next week he stinks...this week he chose a song that showed his high vocal range. The only problem was that he didn't switch between his falsetto and his normal voice very well...it was a rocky transition, and it definitely had me on edge. He was pitchy and sharp the entire time. The only good thing about his performance was his sincerity, which was genuine. At this point, I'm throwing in the towel for him...Josh, you're an incredibly nice guy, but you just haven't got it buddy. :( Sorry.

Score = 3/5

Carmen Rasmusen - "Love Will Lead You Back" - Carmen got out there and looked HOT tonight! She was ten times better than last week. It was overall, really good. I liked it quite a bit, in fact. I think she really pulled herself through this week, but unfortunately the judges didn't like it. I think it was one of her best performances, and even if Randy and Simon don't feel Carmen could win this competition, they shouldn't have said it on National Television. That was rude and uncalled for in my opinion...I am really beginning to hate Randy. Anyways, I really enjoyed Carmen's performance, though it was a tad pitchy on the last note...what the heck, she's still my girl. :)

Score = 4.5/5

Ruben Studdard - "Music of My Heart" - Okay, wow. Ruben chose a fantastic song and it was perfect for his voice. It was very high and incredibly good. He is starting to smile a lot more these days (during his performances). I really really liked it this week...I have not been a fan of Ruben's (although he's very talented), but this week I have to agree, it was fantastic! I just as well give it up...he's gonna win...but oh well, I'm daring to be different by rooting for Carmen and Kim! :)

Score = 5/5

Best of the Night: Kimberley Locke, Clay Aiken, & Ruben Studdard

Worst of the Night: Trenyce

Overall synopsis/comments: Wow this competition is getting good! I don't know why the contestants waited until the Final 6 to lift the bars, but they sure did it this week! I really really really liked all of them (with the exception of a few)! The group song they performed on the Results Show night (written for them by Diane Warren, guest judge), was absolutely AMAZING! The words were so inspiring, and the contestants did a wonderful job with it! I thought all of their new hair styles and colors were fabulous as well! I can't wait for next week!

Who I want to go:

1.) Trenyce

2.) Josh

3.) Ruben

4.) Clay

5.) Kim L.

6.) Carmen

Who will go:

1.) Carmen

2.) Trenyce

3.) Kim L.

4.) Josh

5.) Clay

6.) Ruben

Numbers to call:
1-866-436-5701 for Kim L.

1-866-436-5702 for Clay
1-866-436-5703 for Trenyce
1-866-436-5704 for Josh
1-866-436-5705 for Carmen

1-866-436-5706 for Ruben

American Idol - Final 6 - "Halfway Home" ("American Idol" Special Episode) - April 21, 2003

Carmen Rasmusen - "Can't Hurry Love" - I have to agree with Carm, this is one of my favorite songs that she's sang on the show so far. I really like the original too! :) It was definitely pitchy in spots; not as good as the first time she performed it. She sounded a little sick or hoarse...but I still love her, even though she didn't give her best performance.

Score = 4.5/5

Joshua Gracin - "Amazed" - He definitely chose the right song to show his vocal talent and his country style. Why can't he sing like that every week!? It was just awesome. :)

Score = 4.5/5

Kimberley Locke - "I Can't Make You Love Me" - I absolutely LOVE this song! It is one of those songs that gets stuck in your head after you hear it once or twice in a day! :) She looked fabulous, and sang it very well (of course). "She's mah idol" (after Carm, of course).

Score = 5/5

Ruben Studdard - "Superstar" - Ugh. I am so sick of hearing him sing that song. AHH! It was good, though...the exact same as the last time he sang it and the time before and the time before. :) Blah.

Score = 5/5

Trenyce - "I Have Nothing" - It was amazing, and I'm serious. Not being a big fan of Trenyce, that's saying a lot too. She was awesome. With that performance alone, she should go to the Final 2-3. It was flawless.

Score = 5/5

Clay Aiken - "Somewhere Out There" - I loved his interview before-hand...he was so humble and seemed like one of those guys that you wish was your best friend or something. He sounded so nice! :) And I have to say, WOW Clay...wow. It was great again. I love his voice, and the quality is so genuine.

Score = 5/5

Best of the Night: Trenyce & Clay

Worst of the Night: None. :) They all sounded fantastic! No wonder they're in the Final 5. Haha!

American Idol - Final 7 - April 15, 2003

Kimberly Caldwell - "It's Still Rock 'n' Roll to Me" by Billy Joel - Kimberly got out there and looked REALLY good. I really enjoyed her performance, and she was very confident. I thought it was one of her best performances.

Score = 4.5/5

Ruben Studdard - "Just The Way You Are" by Billy Joel - Ruben got out there and sang very well. He is starting to work the stage much better and I can tell he is getting more and more comfortable with it. He can really sing ANYTHING that you give him. He did absolutely incredibly!

Score = 5/5

Kimberley Locke - "New York State of Mind" by Billy Joel - Kim is amazing. She is getting better and better each week and this week she absolutely BLEW ME AWAY! SHE WAS FABULOUS! At this point, if Carmen goes, I want Kim to win I think. She was absolutely fantastic!

Score = 5/5

Carmen Rasmusen - "And So It Goes" by Billy Joel - As I had taped this episode, I had heard a lot about it already. I heard Carmen did absolutely awful, so I was expecting the worse. Much to my delight, though, I really didn't think it was that bad. It wasn't her best, but it wasn't that bad. I think her outfit was nasty and her end note was a little pitchy, but she did a good job overall. I STILL LOVE HER!

Score = 4/5

Joshua Gracin - "Piano Man" by Billy Joel - Josh really did his thing tonight. He chose the perfect song and got up there and made it his own. He did a really nice job with a difficult song. I was very impressed.

Score = 5/5

Trenyce - "Baby Grand" by Billy Joel - I have not been a fan of Trenyce's, but every week she has been doing extremely well. This week justified my position...she did awful. I think she was truly horrible. I didn't enjoy the performance one bit. It was quite pitchy, and it was definitely not her best. She is capable of much better!

Score = 2/5

Clay Aiken - "Tell Her About It" by Billy Joel - Like Ruben, Clay can sing anything. He chose a different outfit this week, and he chose a fast-paced song FINALLY! Clay did a really good job. It was very "Clay-like," but it was very good nonetheless.

Score = 5/5

Best of the Night: Kimberley Locke & Joshua Gracin

Worst of the Night: Trenyce

Overall synopsis/comments: This week was a HUGE improvement from last week. I was very unimpressed last week, but this week I gave perfect 5's to 4 out of the 7 people. It was great week and I can't wait to see what next week has in store.

1-866-436-5707 for Clay

American Idol - Final 8 - April 08, 2003

Clay Aiken - "At This Moment" by Billy Vera & The Beaters - #1 on December 6, 1986 - It was just okay for me. I don't know what the deal is, but Clay is not getting any better. He is not getting any worse, and he still has a perfect voice, but he's just the same EVERY WEEK! Same clothes, same sound, same ballads...always. And I'm getting sick of it. This competition is about raising the bar every week and Clay definitely didn't do that this week. Altogether good, but he needs to shape it up...

Score = 4/5

Kimberley Locke - "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion - #1 on February 28, 1998 - When I figured out what the song was going to be, I immediately just groaned, but she did a really really good job with it. I have always been a fan of Kim, but I think this evening she really outdid herself. Her performance, as Simon said, was flawless. I also liked her "look." The straight hair makes her look so much thinner than her normal curly hair.

Score = 5/5

Rickey Smith - "Endless Love" by Lionel Richie - #1 on July 18, 1981 - First of all, I don't know why in the world he chose a Lionel Richie song, as he was one of the judges, but whatever...he did a good job. It wasn't as good as last week, but it was good. Just okay. I really liked his look though...with the glasses and the hat. I thought it was a good look for him. On a whole, though, it was an average performance. I've seen much better out of him.

Score = 3.5/5

Kimberly Caldwell - "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" by Bryan Adams - #1 on July 6, 1991 - She came out and looked absolutely wonderful...great dress, great make-up, great hair...very pretty. It wasn't as wild and crazy as usual, but it was good. She did another ballad, *gag* which was unusual for her. She started out abnormally high for her voice, but it got lower quick. There were several pitch problems. I've always been a huge Kim Caldwell fan, but tonight I was not impressed at all.

Score = 1/5

Joshua Gracin - "Amazed" by Lonestar - #1 on June 26, 1999 - First of all, I want to start out by saying Josh looked absolutely horrible! He looked very pale and tired and not to mention he looked as if he had gained quite a bit of weight! Anyways, besides the way he looked, it was a good performance. He picked a perfect song for his voice. It was average, again...just okay. Not his best performance, but it was much better than last week's! I am still a huge fan, though!

Score = 2.5/5

Carmen Rasmusen - "Call Me" by Blondie - #1 on March 8, 1980 - Finally, someone chose a fast-paced song! I was so happy for that, after hearing ballad after ballad! Anyways, Carmen did a decent job. It wasn't great, but it wasn't that bad. I don't know why the judges kept saying "wrong song choice." I personally liked the song. They were much too hard on her. She did a good job, and tried her hardest. I'm a die-hard fan of hers. Unfortunately, though, I don't think she's going to be around much longer.

Score = 3/5

Trenyce - "The Power of Love" by Celine Dion - #1 on December 25, 1993 - Although I hate to say it, she did a really good job. The song showed her vocal range, showcasing her high notes. She really reminded me of Tamyra on that song. She was really good...that's it, just really good!

Score = 4/5

Ruben Studdard - "Kiss and Say Goodbye" by the Manhattans - #1 on May 29, 1976 - Ruben ceases to amaze me. He does a good job every week and always picks the perfect song. This week he did not have on his typical 205 jersey, which was nice for a change! It was an overall flawless performance...but it wasn't my favorite of his. I think it had a little something to do with his song, but it fit his voice nonetheless.

Score = 5/5

Best of the Night: Kimberley Locke

Worst of the Night: Kimberly Caldwell

Overall synopsis/comments: Maybe I just wasn't in an "impressable" mood, but I didn't think this week's show was very good. It was kind of boring, actually...anyways, just sort of blah for me. I thought Lionel Richie was awesome, though! He had really good advice for the contestants, and was really positive. He was unlike Randy who beats around the bush, Paula who is too nice, and Simon who is too harsh. He was in the middle of all of them, and I liked his comments a lot.
